The LYCRA Company today announced it has entered into an agreement with Qore® to enable the world’s first large-scale commercial production of bio-derived spandex using QIRA®. QIRA® is the next generation 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and one of main ingredients of spandex. Its production is based on renewable raw materials such as corn. The field corn for the first generation of LYCRA® fibre produced with QIRA® will be grown by farmers in Iowa.
