One thing is clear: Lace remains indispensable.
Lace finds itself stylistically in an intermediate phase between abstract and romantic.
Many designs are slowly returning to feature the traits of classic lace styles with fine lines, lightness and traditional floral motifs thematising delicate blossoms and we are slowly moving away from abstract and geometric designs. At the same time, echoes of the Baroque are still visible, with coarse structures, open ground constructions, partly unrecognisable gauges and heavy looks dominated by modern abstractly interpreted floral motifs. Voluminous and dimensional materials are still important as in the use of heavy bourdon cord threads to emphasise contours or the use of heavy filler threads for the motifs.
