Textiles are the jack-of-all-trades in the automobile. They ensure safety and clean air, dampen sound and insulate and are indispensable, especially in the seating area. Today, fibre-based materials already account for an average of 30 to 35 kg/car.¹ This percentage is likely to be even higher in the future, because modern mobility leads to new challenges with potential for textiles. Interior air conditioning, for example, is becoming increasingly important, and electromobility requires new battery concepts, not least with regard to space requirements. A new generation of customers also demands connectivity instead of horsepower and helpful assistance systems that simplify vehicle driving, up to and including autonomous driving. Diverse sharing concepts also demand highly durable, easy-care materials and flexibly adaptable interior concepts. The issue of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important.
