Adjustable insulation elements allow the heat transfer through building envelopes to be adapted as required, thereby saving heating and cooling energy. In the ReVaD research project, the German Institutes for Textile and Fibre Research Denkendorf (DITF) and its partners are developing such insulation elements using the Knudsen effect and spacer textiles.
