Early rider in the use of natural fibres
Snowboards made of flax fibres: contributing to greater sustainability in the composites industry Learn moreKARL MAYER Technische Textilien is a key player in the composites industry. The innovative company based in Chemnitz manufactures machines for producing non-crimp fabrics and warp-knitted fabrics with weft insertion, which are used as reinforcement in a wide variety of applications. The textile reinforcement structures are mainly made of carbon or glass fibres. While these technical fibres offer an excellent mechanical performance, they can only be produced by consuming significant energy and resources. The use of natural fibres is intended to ensure greater sustainability. As an example, flax fibres provide a specific strength and stiffness comparable to glass fibres, but are considered a renewable raw material. A cooperation between KARL MAYER Technische Textilien and silbaerg Snowboards will demonstrate what can be made for the leisure sector using natural fibres.
