Auping impresses with 100% circular mattress at interzum 2025 in Cologne

Mattresses are associated with enormous resource consumption and waste volumes. In Europe and the USA alone, around 55 million mattresses are disposed of every year, two thirds of them in incinerators and most of the rest in landfill sites.
This article is about:
To improve their environmental footprint, more and more manufacturers are focussing on recycling and therefore on products made from just a few components that are easy to separate. Auping is one of the pioneers in this field. The Dutch bed specialist has been working with Niaga® since 2017 and has developed the world's first recyclable mattress with the material knowledge and design expertise of its partner.

Auping Evolve, as the zero-waste mattress is called, consists of just two materials: polyester, processed into spacer fabrics, fleece and an adhesive, and steel for the spring core.
Auping launched its circular premiere product in 2018 and has since converted all of its white mattresses to its recycling concept. The plan is to transfer this to all other mattress types by 2030.
At Interzum in Cologne in May 2025, Auping's fully recyclable mattresses were one of the highlights of the trade fair in the bed sector.
A lifetime of sleeping on one mattress material"h2>
With its innovative, sustainable construction, the Auping Elysium made it into the exhibition at the Trend Forum Textile & Machinery at interzum.
On top of the 100% circular multi-layer construction, Vent-tex® - a layer consisting of two thin, breathable spacer fabrics - ensures softness, optimum support and excellent ventilation and therefore the best sleeping climate.

This is followed by a thicker, more pressure-resistant spacer fabric and a Harmony-pocs® layer. The comfort layer consists of over 700 mini springs, which are individually packed in small textile bags and distribute the pressure well.
The centrepiece of the mattress is a 3-zone pocket spring core with zoning made for all kinds of different body contours. This component, specially developed for Auping, ensures that the pressure zones are optimised for the body and is covered by a fleece on the underside and also by a spacer fabric on the top.
The Niaga®click-unclick adhesive system bonds the individual mattress parts together.
The special polyester-based granulate is melted by heating to stick the parts together and to loosen them again after use for worry-free recycling. The material used can be reused up to eight times and can therefore be utilised for a whole person's lifetime.
Sleep like on clouds"h2>
The use of spacer fabrics in mattresses is obvious. They offer support, flexibility and ventilation and can be customised, as the spacer textiles offer a wide range of design options in terms of pressure stability, breathability and softness.
The springiness and therefore the strength of the comfort can be influenced, for example, by the gauge of the monofilaments between the cover surfaces. The ventilation effects depend on the pattern of the top surfaces and the cavities between the 3D layers. They fill with air, which constantly circulates through the movements on the mattress.
